FLAG DAY PARADE IN NEW YORK

Students from the Immaculate Conception School in Astoria, Queens march in the annual Flag Day Parade on Friday, June 14, 2013, starting at New York City Hall Park. Flag Day, was created by proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson on June 14, 1916 as a holiday honoring America's flag but it was not until 1949 when it became National Flag Day.  The holiday honors the 1777 Flag Resolution where the stars and stripes were officially adopted as the flag of the United States. (© Richard B. Levine)
