NYS Attorney General Eliot Spitzer announces on May 24, 2004 the filing of a civil law suit against former CEO and Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Grasso. Spitzer cited violations of New York's Not-for-Profit Corporation Law in the awarding of an excessive compensation package to Grasso. The investigation by the AG's office determined that the NYSE was misled about various aspects of the $187.5 million payment package awarded to the former CEO. (© Frances M. Roberts)
