Gasoline prices are high at a Hess gas station in Midtown Manhattan on May 7, 2006. NY Senator Charles Schumer called for the elimination of federal tariffs on imported ethanol, a mandated additive to gasoline. Gasoline is 10% ethanol and removing the tax on the imported additive would reduce gas costs for consumers by 3 to 8 cents a gallon. (© Richard B. Levine)
