TRAYVON MARTIN MURAL

An unfinished mural in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York on Saturday, September 1, 2012 commemorates Trayvon Martin and protests the NYPD policy of stop and frisk. The artists feel the policy singles out people of color and creates an atmosphere of fear and a de facto martial law in neighborhoods where it is enforced. MMartin was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in February. The shooting has raised the consciousness of the public about racial profiling and the suspiciousness of young black men based on their clothing. (© Richard B. Levine)
